DİYARBAKIR - ISIS members being held in Diyarbakır No 2 High Security Prison were placed in a ward located in the corridor of the political prisoners. Political prisoners and their families are concerned about the situation.

The hunger strike initiated by political prisoners demanding an end to the isolation against imprisoned PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan in Imrali Prison and the increasing violations of rights in prisons is on day 41. Practices that could create provocation are put into action in Diyarbakır No 2 High Security Prison. ISIS members were placed in the corridor of the political prisoners.

One of the political prisoners, Mazlum Demir explained what happened to his father Sait Demir on the phone.

Stating that the ISIS members were placed right next to his son's ward, father Demir said: "My son told that the ISIS members that carried out crimes against humanity, and massacres against the Kurdish people were placed right next to their ward. Prisoners refuse to stay in the same corridor with ISIS barbarians."

Saying that it is unacceptable that their children who paid heavy prices fighting against the ISIS gangs in line with their philosophy and ideology, father Demir told that as the prisoners and their families they want Human's Rights Association (İHD) and Diyarbakır Bar Association to take action immediately.

Telling that his son's letter which he wrote in Kurdish was not sent by the prison administration which demanded payment for translation, Demir said: "The prison administration told that in order for them to send the letter, the letter must be translated and my son need to pay for it. This is unacceptable. Kurdish is our mother tongue. We condemn these practices. Noting that the pressure on the prisoners increased with the hunger strike, Demir stated that the wards of the prisoners are now being searched every week.

'ISOLATION MUST BE LIFTED'

Pointing out that his son was on hunger strike for 87 days in 2018, father Demir said: "The current hunger strike is against the isolation on PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan. In order to prevent the violations of rights in prison, we must first end this isolation ok Mr. Öcalan."

Adressing the authorities, Demir said: "The government must comply with its own laws and the internation laws to which it is a party. Therefore, we want the isolation imposed on Mr. Öcalan to be lifted as soon as possible. When the isolation on Mr. Öcalan is lifted, the isolation on the society and on other prisoners will be lifted as well."
